The Art of It: Day’s End
Deborah Bonnell, a Greenwich resident, inspires everyone with her landscape paintings.
RISD grad and former textile designer Deborah Bonnell was inspired to paint “Late Day Shadows, Stourhead” after touring the famous garden during a visit to England. First she created en plein air watercolor studies, next she took reference photos, and finally the images were translated into this evocative oil painting.
“I was trying to convey the feeling at day’s end, when the shadows are long, and there’s a certain peacefulness,” says Bonnell, the current artist-in-residence at the Weir Farm Art Center. “I love the shapes of trees and leaves, in particular. Walking in the woods is my idea of a wonderful time.”
