The Art of It: Nature Lovers
Julie Ann Mann creates trees that reflect the mysteries of nature
“The evocative shapes created by these trees reflect the mystery of nature, but also suggest an individual and collective narrative for the viewer to unravel,” says artist Julie Anne Mann. “That particular pair of trees”—The Lovers—”struck me as being a very masculine and feminine combination and since they are entwined until death in real life I decided to make them lovers.” Mann, a graduate of School of Visual Art’s fine art program, has been selected as the October Artist-in-Residence at the Weir Farm Art Center. Growing up on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, she was surrounded by forests and a wealth of natural landscapes. She credits this early immersion in nature as a primary influence on her work today.
