Life's a Beach
Try the empanadas at this beach-styled Norwalk cafe
Valencia Luncheria makes a big splash in Norwalk with colors of the sun and sea indoors and “beach” dining outdoors. Owners Michael Young and Luis Chavez relocated little Valencia Luncheria to the next block. It’s styled as a beach house right down to the sand beach with tables sidewalk-side.
Mixologist Josh Pekar, makes fresh cocktails brimming with fresh fruits and herbs like the Expatriate with Don Julio Blanco tequila, pasilla pepper, grilled pineapple, cilantro, lime, and celery bitters. Young describes the menu as Venezuelan beach food. A must is the house-made ceviche with scallops and shrimp cooked in a marinade of citrus juices. Affordable small plates (under $5) like empanadas and arepas are filled with a variety of sweet and savory fillings like the tasty and moist pernil (roasted pork that has marinated for 72 hours) or dulce de leche with apple. First-timers try The Works Dinner, a variety of empanada, arepa, tostones, plantains, and ceviche. There are plenty of entrée choices of Pork and Clams, Parilla Mixta (steak, chicken, chorizo, and shrimp), or venture to the specials of the day like smoked meats. Try sister restaurant Bodega in Fairfield.
