Chef Luis Lopez cooks up a variety of Latin and Mediterranean dishes at his New Canaan restaurant
The pleasure that Luis Lopez takes in opening his doors every day to share his cuisine, the décor, and ambiance of his Chef Luis restaurant in New Canaan is the fullest expression of his love for his profession. Opened a few years ago, the recently expanded restaurant has more seating, a full bar, and a décor with rich textures and earth tones of tile, wood, pottery, and steel accessorized with vibrantly colored textiles. The warm ambiance includes Latin music, Luis greeting guests, and windows that open to Elm Street.
With a focus on the freshest ingredients available, the menu features Latin and Mediterranean dishes and Luis is introducing authentic Latin recipes from his native Guatemala. Starters include flash-fried calamares tossed with hot peppers, chorizo, and tomato concasse, and if you’re lucky the daily special may include Luis’ ceviche, a combination of fresh seafood marinated in citrus with fresh chilies and herbs. Mains include pastas, fresh seafood, and steaks like the Churrasco a grilled marinated skirt steak with chimichurri. From the bar, enjoy cocktails like the Oaxacan Mule with Mezcal, lime juice and ginger beer and a wine list with a strong California presence in the whites and Italy, Argentina, and Spain in the reds.
