Recycling Tough Items
How to tips
Recycling is no longer limited to yesterday's New York Times. But some items can to tough to get back in circulation.
1) Cell Phones
Pass your old phone down or bring it back to the store you bought it from. Wilton’s AT&T accepts used phones and accessories through their Buyback Program and the Verizon store allows consumers to trade in their devices for credit.
Trashing books isn’t just wasteful, it’s bordering on sacrilegious. Swing over to The Wilton Library book bin to drop it off. You could also donate your books to the Turnover Shop, which will either sell the items or send them to charities.
3) Barbecue Tanks
New grill for spring? Get rid of your old propane tank and get ready for recycling by safely burning off the remaining gas, sealing with the plastic cap.
Putting rechargeable batteries in the trash is a big no-no. Home Depot, RadioShack, and other retailers are required to accept them back for recycling. Car batteries, too. Another option for town residents is the Wilton Transfer Station, which accepts all batteries, computers, monitors, TVs, and printers free of charge.
