Rachel Sanders describes her work, quite simply, as “playful.” The Milwaukee-born artist, and July’s Weir Farm Artist in Residence, uses a varied palette, often employing house paints and reject colors from hardware stores to create eye-catching interactions between patterns and colors. Drawing on her observational nature—Sanders lists jazz music, coffee-shop patrons, and the architecture of her city among her varied influences—she paints abstractions of everyday life. “I’m usually drawing from something I saw that day,” says Sanders.
