The Art of It: Feeling Blue?
Artist Cassandria Blackmore finds glass a seductive medium
”Glass is a smooth, seductive, and mysterious substance yet at the same time, very ordinary,” says artist Cassandria Blackmore.
“With my work, you may, at times, see the painting through the transparent surface while later you might see the reflection of the environment around it thus obscuring the artist’s physical mark. Glass is a chameleon of sorts, an illusionist.”
Blackmore paints in reverse on the surface of the glass. Once the pigment dries, she shatters the glass and carefully assembles the pieces together on a cement/panel mount. The entire work is then framed in steel. “Blue Kapnos L II” is on display at the Heather Gaudio Fine Art in New Canaan through December 30, 2015.
