In the Med

Organic outside meets contemporary inside at Mediterraneo in Norwalk

Another jewel in the crown of Z Hospitality Group opened at the new Hotel Zero Degrees in Norwalk. In addition to Terra, Sole, Acqua, Aurora, and Mediterraneo Greenwich, Mediterraneo Norwalk lives up to the standards of ZHG in décor and menu. Organic outside meets contemporary inside while maximizing the natural setting and minimizing the Route 7 location. The west wall of windows overlooks trees, the river, and waterfall. The interior is punctuated with lines, swirls, and curves capitalizing on light reflections inside and out.

Executive Chef Albert DeAngelis is CIA-educated and trained at Michelin-starred restaurants in France. The theme is versatile, creative, and fresh Mediterranean. Entrees include sea scallop ravioli with roasted cauliflower, thyme, and Marcona almonds, pappardelle with Maine lobster, chanterelles and fresh tarragon, pan-roasted branzino served with crispy spaetzle, wild mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and green apple mustard. Pizzas that suit all from a child to a gourmet include gorgonzola dolce, arugula, black mission figs, and truffle oil.

Desserts are housemade and include warm bread pudding and apple cobbler. The wine list is impressive but not intimidating.
