Berkshire Magazine Names Editor
An international journalist with strong local roots takes the helm
Berkshire Magazine has named Anastasia Stanmeyer as editor, starting with the launch July 2012 issue. For the 12 years Stanmeyer lived in Asia, she wrote and edited for publications such as Time, Asiaweek, and Newsweek.. She also has written extensively for daily newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News, Christian Science Monitor, and San Francisco Chronicle. “We are excited to have someone with such talent, experience, and creativity leading the editorial team as we launch Berkshire Magazine,” says publisher Geoffrey Morris. “Anastasia has worldly experience and local knowledge needed to create a superb magazine for the people of the Berkshires.”
Since moving to the Berkshires, in addition to freelance writing, she has been working on a project related to the oral history of Otis, where she lives, with her husband, John, a contract photographer with National Geographic. The Stanmeyers reside on a 40-acre former horse/cattle farm, where they and their three children do organic farming, raise chickens, and have a seasonal photo gallery. Stanmeyer is a member of the Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, the Otis Cultural Council, and is active throughout the Berkshire community.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the new Berkshire Magazine,” says Stanmeyer. “The magazine will have first-rate writing, drawing from the wealth of talent right here in our backyard. There is definitely a need for a quality magazine that covers the diversity of our area. I look forward to being its editor."
The July 2012 issue of Berkshire Magazine will arrive in 15,000 mailboxes on June 27, with an additional 5,000 copies for sale at area newsstands and in rooms of inns and hotels.
