Soprano Dawn Upshaw joins the Brentano Quartet in two contrasting works for string quartet and soprano: Respighi’s Il Tramanto, “tonally plush and lingeringly Romantic” (The New York Times); and Schoenberg’s early Quartet No. 2 — considered the first example of atonality, breaking a 200-year tradition of music written in a particular key.
