Family Talent
At Sagi on Catoonah Street
Tucked away on Catoonah Street is a Ridgefield dining treasure, Sagi Cucina Italiana. Owned by Bianca Demasi with daughter Sabrina Rullo as manager, this family-run restaurant extends “family” to how they treat their guests. Mother and daughter are present, checking on tables and welcoming guests. Behind the bar, you’ll find Sabrina serving drinks while Chef Bianca is hands-on in the kitchen.
Sabrina is winner of the Ridgefield Iron Sommelier contest. Her expertise is a natural gift and she shares her knowledge through her descriptively written wine list. Sagi is looking forward to opening a tasting room this fall. Tastings will include wines, cognacs, cheeses, and meats.
The menu at Sagi offers small plates like Handmade Duck Ravioli filled with shredded duck breast and mushrooms, and house signature dish Vongole Veraci, sweet cockle clams stewed with pancetta and fresh tomatoes. Homemade pastas are a specialty including Ricotta Gnocchi, a lighter version of the traditional made with ricotta and served in a tomato basil butter sauce, and Pappardelle al Carciofi with jumbo shrimp, artichoke hearts, and cherry tomatoes tossed with a black truffle sauce.
On Tuesdays, Chef Bianca makes 18 servings of her special Calabrian Lasagna. Does it make it even better that it’s a limited edition? Only those lucky enough to be the first 18 will ever know.
Lunch and dinner and a lively Happy Hour (5 to 7 p.m.) Monday through Saturday. Outdoor dining and private dining room available for parties. —Julia Reis
