On the Roadhouse
The beloved Redding Roadhouse takes a new approach to comfort food
Four young, creative foodies purchased the Redding Roadhouse with a mission to giving the beloved eatery a new life while maintaining its integrity as a local landmark. It’s a family affair with great credentials, the owners having strong culinary experience working under Daniel Boulud and new Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. Roadhouse chef Wirt honed his skills at Guarnaschelli’s NYC eatery Butter. He’s now her sous chef in Kitchen Stadium, the setting for “Iron Chef.”
The menu features fresh seasonal ingredients, sourcing from area farms like Holbrook in Bethel and Arethusa in Litchfield. Menu items consist of elevated comfort food. Roasted chicken served with wild mushrooms and faro, braised lamb shank with roasted fingerlings and eggplant puree, and Atlantic salmon with white beans, sautéed greens, and smoked salsa. The tavern menu has snacks such as fried pickles with black pepper mayo, bacon popcorn, sliders, and mains including the Roadhouse burger.
The décor has been freshened while maintaining the original atmosphere and has plenty of options for fireside dining in the formal dining room, tavern or upstairs in the private Mark Twain Room.
