Why do weather apps differ with their weather reports?
Well, in short, weather outlets get their data from different sources. WeatherBug tells its audience specifically where they are getting temperature readings. For instance, WeatherBug get its readings for Ridgefield at East Ridge Middle School. Forecasts are updated up to four times each day.
AccuWeather uses a different approach. it relies on the National Weather Service for current conditions. The NWS uses the nearest reporting station when deciding which forecast to use for a certain town. In Ridgefield, the nearest station is Danbury Municipal Airport, the same station used for Wilton.
The Weather Channel claims its TruPoint feature provides accurate weather reports. TruPoint uses resources such as satellites and weather-prediction models to sup- ply what it says are more reliable reports—with data updated every
20 minutes. When used as a phone app, TruPoint can locate where you are and give you the current weather report at that spot.
