Carol Bonci, owner of Sharon's Caro Caffe, personifies the artisanal baker.
If you value carefully crafted pizzas, made one by one, each with the same set of caring hands, then Caro Caffe is a place you want to know about. Caro Caffe owner Carol Bonci personifies the artisanal baker. First blending each flour mixture used (she makes pizza, focaccia, baguettes, and some cakes); she completes her creations with only the best ingredients matched with innovative toppings. Regional, seasonal is her mantra.
Never shrinking from the labor-intensive process needed to make each item, she is, in fact, proud of it. And, as a gluten free eater, she has become a beacon to others seeking gluten-free pizzas and desserts (i.e., chocolate torte, lemon Arborio rice cakes). Her gluten-free sandwich bread comes highly recommended. “It is delicious sliced and toasted,” she boasts (order a day in advance).
Not planning to eat your pizza or focaccia now? Tell her and she will partially bake them so you can finish the cooking in your own oven. Pizzas (each serves two) begin at $12, gluten free add $5. From her rabbit-hole sized caffe she also prepares fresh salads made with Sky Farm greens and her own croutons as well as salad dressings which she bottles.
