Ten-day paddle from one end of the Housatonic River to the other April 22 to May 1
Launch into spring with a ten-day paddle from one end of the Housatonic River to the other.
Three expert paddlers will guide goers down the Housatonic River beginning at the source in the Berkshires and arriving in Stratford, on Long Island Sound. Along the way, riverside celebrations will take place, greeting paddlers and offering instruction about the river ecosystem and celebrating the 75th anniversary of HVA. “It promises to be a wonderful ten-day celebration, including many partner organizations and VIPs,” says HVA’s Brenda Singer.
On April 30, HVA board member and former fashion exec Linda Allard has committed to paddling in the war canoe, with influential Litchfield County women.
HVA will hold riverside events along the way. School children will participate in events in W. Cornwall and Kent. The West Cornwall event will engage students from Cornwall and Sharon in an art-science collaboration, creating a life-size bald eagle nest, to celebrate the return of the bald eagle to Cornwall and the Housatonic River.
The Kent event will take place at The Kent School and will engage 100-plus Kent Center School students in science activities about the river’s wildlife.
Don’t forget your sunscreen.
