The Art of It: Watermelon Ascending
Enshrined against a backdrop of vibrant blue firmament in Ann Getsinger’s “Sky Slice” is a wedge of watermelon, atop a wooden post exalting the seemingly insignificant fruit. Such is the nature of Getsinger’s work—on exhibit from June 6 through July 18 in a show entitled Stillscapes at Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury. In this exhibition, Getsinger experiments with the “placing of objects slightly out of context or in unusual ways,” creating a unique blend of surrealism, still-life, and landscape painting. Getsinger grew up in Watertown and now calls the Berkshires her home.
