The Art of It: Sandy Melody
Field Kallop explores math, physics, and astronomy—with sand.
Field Kallop creates installations in galleries and museums that explore her fascination with math, physics, and astronomy. Kallop’s compositions are created on the floor using sand-filled pendulums—the resulting patterns of deposited sand are elliptical in nature and influenced by viewer participation.
Says the Hotchkiss alum who holds an MFA from RISD: “The drawings are reminiscent of Tibetan sand mandalas or Australian Aboriginal sand painting.” The Melody of Structures will be on display at the Tremaine Gallery at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville until December 13, 2015.
