Book Club For Your Sweet Tooth
As the temperature outside drops and snow covers the ground, nothing sounds better than turning up the oven temp and spending a cozy day inside baking up a storm. Luckily, the Oliver Wolcott Library (OWL) has you covered.
The latest segment of their OWL Cookbook Club dedicated entirely to...chocolate. That’s right, OWL has handpicked a stack of cookbooks filled with recipes to tempt your sweet tooth.
The club, much like your standard book club, meets bimonthly to recap and discuss their experiences with the books they have just finished reading, except this one comes with snacks. Librarians Patricia Moore and Audra Maclaran, the women in charge of the club decide on a cooking topic for the next segment and collect a few cookbooks dedicated to that particular topic, and members take a book home and try out some of the recipes.
The members then meet up, swap stories, successes, failures and then get a chance to eat their successes together. “Don’t be intimidated, we’re just amateur cooks who love books,” say Moore and Maclaran.
The club was started in 2014 with an all American classic–pie. “It was a wonderful way to kick off the club,” says Moore.
Some of the past club meetings have included books on Cupcakes, Cookies, Appetizers, and Bread. And if you miss a meeting, don’t worry, the Club also has a blog featuring Recipe Roundups from meetings, trial runs of recipes, cookbook reviews, and updates on the group.
The upcoming chocolate segment of the cookbook club meets on Wednesday, February 3rd at 7 pm. There is a selection of chocolate cookbooks ready and waiting at the Library. So find your inner Willy Wonka and get cooking.
