Art: Faces of Love
Exploring faces, thoughts, and relationships
Patrice Barrett sees faces in everything, everywhere. She derives her inspiration from shadows, patterns, and banal day-to-day sightings. She turns the world around her into astonishing paintings of “simplified and deconstructed visuals of human faces, in order to show the duplicitous, or harmonious, nature of our thoughts.” The many layers of color, shades, and different mediums highlight the complexity of human thought.
He Loves Me, She Loves Me Not (pictured above) is part of the SAMESEX Exhibit at City Lights Gallery in Bridgeport. For Barrett, it is important to provide the viewer with a premise, and this work’s premise is one of a failing relationship, “whether that relationship is between two sides of yourself, or another person,” she explains
