Step Up for the Brave
Put your best climbing shoes on to “Brave the Heights” with a vertical road race held on Saturday, September 12, from 11am-5pm at the Bridgeport Bluefish Stadium at Harbor Yard. “This event will hopefully bring awareness about ABRI/Homes for the Brave to an entirely new audience,” explains Olivia Ellwanger, communications coordinator for Homes for the Brave.
“We see the stair climb event as a fun opportunity to raise awareness about the amazing work that ABRI/Homes for the Brave does every day.”
This will be the first physical activity-based event held by the organization, and the goal is to make this an annual event if it is well received. The course at the Ball Park consists of 1,000 steps. Each participant may choose to race against the clock or challenge themselves to a certain number of steps at the pace they are comfortable with. Participants must be age 13 or older, but there will be on-field activities for children 12 and under. If running is not for you, you can be a virtual stair climber. As a virtual climber you have the ability to form a team and raise money without participating the day of the event.
Break a sweat rain or shine, cheer on participants, and honor our brave veterans. Registration can be done online at homesforthebrave.org/stepupforthebrave and includes a t-shirt and light food buffet.
