Kiteboarding Champ Gets Wheels
Two Fairfield natives are giving a whole new meaning to the term road trip.
Two Fairfield natives are giving a whole new meaning to the term road trip. Joseph Ruscito, a world-champion kiteboarder we featured in our September/October 2009 issue, and Lucas Gubinski have set out on a lengthy mission—peddling 2,957 miles across the country. Beginning in San Francisco on August 7, the two adventure seekers have their trip meters set to return to Fairfield by early October. Completely unsupported and biking mainly on Route 50, the thrill seekers are not riding purely for the adventure of it. They are biking for a cause. They hope to raise $10,000 for Simply Smiles, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the daily lives of impoverished children in mountain communities in Mexico. Donations can be made at FirstGiving (search U.S. Bike Trip). You can follow them on twitter @USBikeTrip. A follow-up story will appear in the next issue.
