95 and Counting
Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County
The first Friday of every month Patricia Boyd drives to Thomas Hooker School near Beardsley Park in Bridgeport. There she reads to a class of kindergarteners who are enraptured by the characters and tales that the experienced reader brings to life.
Boyd’s educational visits represent just a sliver of the hands-on volunteer work that members of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County have been committed to for nearly a century. The women’s group this year celebrates the 95th anniversary of its formation in Bridgeport.
With the need in the Bridgeport community as evident as it was in 1920, the JLEFC in 2015 launched its “Healthy Families, Healthy Futures.” The shared-dinner program aims to improve children’s readiness for school.
Hundreds will gather at Beardsley Park on November 15 for JLFEC’s second annual 5K run/walk and the 300-member group will formally celebrate its 95th anniversary at its annual black-tie gala in spring 2016.
