Decadent Italian favorites enjoyed with sweeping views
The newest addition to Westport’s National Hall complex is Vespa, a casual Italian eatery featuring hand-rolled pastas, house-cured meats, and creative cocktails. The open, airy, corner location has huge windows and sweeping views of the Saugatuck River and the bustling Post Road. The menu begins with a wide variety of starters including salads, seafood, local cheeses, and crostini, like the not-to-be missed Stracciatella Toasts. Vespa’s homemade pastas are a combination of classic and inventive dishes using interesting ingredients like uni butter, preserved tomato, and our favorite, guanciale.
Main courses range from succulent short ribs over gnocchi to fresh striped bass served with black walnut sunchoke purée, all expertly prepared by Chef Craig Wallen, who worked alongside Mario Batali at New York’s Lupa Trattoria. Be sure to save room for dessert; zeppole, vanilla cheesecake with salted caramel, and a superb lemon olive oil cake with orange gelato are worth every calorie.
