Taberna in Bridgeport's north end
Taberna Restaurant, near the Fairfield border in Bridgeport’s North End, is a must-try experience for local foodies. Serving some of the best Mediterranean cuisine in Connecticut, living up to his Zagat “excellent” rating, owner and head chef Daniel Lopez shares his passion for foods from Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Chef Daniel is a welcoming host along with his attentive staff. Taberna’s décor is a blank canvas allowing you to create your evening with a choice of two dining-rooms, bar, and patio for dining al fresco.
Serving lunch and dinner, Taberna cooks up a variety of dishes. The house specialty is seafood. Consider the classic Paella Valenciana or customer favorite Seafood Casserole made with mussels, Manilla clams, bay scallops, and whitefish sautéed in garlic, tomatoes, and wine or have a drink in the bar enjoying tapas and crispy Taberna Pies. The tapas special menu may include grilled fresh Sardines, Codfish Croquettes, Camarones al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic), Tortilla Espagnola, and ceviche. Other house-made items include the pastas, desserts, and ice creams.
On a recent evening, Chef Daniel collaborated with Premier Wine & Spirits of Fairfield for a dinner featuring organic wines from the Navarra region of Spain presented by Gathering Harvests. The menu featured five courses including Spanish wood-roasted piquillo peppers stuffed with a mixture of rice, shrimp, and saffron aioli served with an Enanso Viura, and marinated pork tenderloin with Bagordi Rioja. Chef Daniel worked with Gathering Harvests to partner complimentary pairings. —Julia Reis.
