I Am Maryann
Jewelry line inspired by self-awareness
By Eileen Weber
If you asked Maryann Dolzani if she was proud of her accomplishments in media and sales consulting, she would say yes. But like many in business, not everyone can express themselves as creatively as Dolzani can. A Fairfield resident and wife of area musician Brian Dolzani, she felt like she was in a bit of a funk last holiday season. But instead of wallowing in self-pity, she got herself motivated.
In one of her husband’s unreleased songs entitled “Broken,” she found the words: “I am broken, I am healing …” and realized we all have those “I am …” statements. Some of them are positive, some introspective but all add to an image of who we think we are. Those images led Dolzani to launch her own jewelry business.
I Am Maryann is a line of sterling-silver and gold-filled necklaces that starts with the words “I am” and ends with however you choose to fill in the blank. “I Am Learning.” “I Am Love.” “I Am Peace.” You get the idea.
Dolzani was thrilled when she learned she was named the runner up in the UncommonGoods jewelry design contest held in September. Her line was chosen out of 250 applicants and her merchandise will be included in goodie bags at the Golden Globes in January.
“There’s a moment of reflection. What am I? What do I want more of?” says Dolzani. “That’s what makes it special. The ‘I Am’ is always changing.”
