| Description |
Join us for the opening of sculpture artist Susan Tabchnick's show STUFF, on veiw at the Pious Bird. Enjoy a wine reception and meet the artist to find out more about her work. “Stuff, indescribable junk is what I’m attracted to. Decades of basement detritus and waste presenting itself at its most vulnerable: filthy, rusty, broken and misshapen; the last stop before the trash. It is their history that I honor and embrace.”
The pieces begin with a piece of salvage that the artist is attracted to rather than a fixed idea of something trying to be built. As the pieces come together – they are never altered in any way – a new “life” is resurrected from a previous one. Importantly, the process requires that all the parts balance as the construction evolves; it allows for the flexibility and fluidity of finding just the right part. All of the work presented in the show is assembled in this way. |
