Where to Pick a Pumpkin?

Where to Pick a Pumpkin?

Angevine Farm

The pumpkin madness begins with the opening of Angevine Farm’s trademark harvest barn. Every weekend from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m., pumpkins will take a role-call on the grounds, hoping find a home with a welcoming front porch or even a family who just enjoys carving out a goofy face for all the neighbors to see. Eager Christmas celebrants can even tag the plumpest and earthiest tree on the farm. Be sure to check out the Pumpkin Palooza, October 7 at 10 a.m. for a grand old time with the family, and as the farm puts it, “Making memories at Angevine Farm.”

Bunnell Farm

PYO, which is pumpkin talk for “pick your own” is just how Bunnell Farm casually invites the locals to find their unique pumpkin. Fifth generation family-owned Bunnell Farm provides everything from ornamental corn to apple cider to hayrides for the kiddies. There is even a flashlight corn maze that runs past curfew on October 21, 22, 28, and 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The folks at Bunnell also offer a PYO turkey option, if you already have your eyes set on quite a Thanksgiving Day feast.

Ellsworth Hill Orchard and Berry Farm

Ellsworth Farm is tucked away in the Northwest corner of Connecticut and the perk with this farm, is that you won’t leave on an empty stomach. Once you pick your pumpkin, it’s time to sink your teeth into all the fall seasonal treats Ellsworth Farm has to offer. Health nuts can stick to pears apples and unpasteurized, no preservatives apple cider. While those who are waiting for New Year’s to make their weight-loss resolutions can binge on cider donuts, fresh pies, muffins, and cookies. And if you’re feeling guilty about those cider donuts, then you can always speed-walk through the six-acre corn maze. Hayrides are also offered on the weekends.

Lyman Orchards

Just as the baseball season intensifies with playoffs just around the corner, the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry comes to life at Lyman Orchard’s corn maze, as the teams logos can be seen from a birds-eye glance from above the maze. Aside from picking pumpkins, visitors can also play a round of 18-holes on a golf course affectionately known as “The Jones Course.” So why not pick a pumpkin and putt on the greens of the golf course that hosted the 79th Connecticut PGA Championship—Multi-tasking at its best!
