Top Five Spots for Frozen Treats

Top Five Spots for Frozen Treats

How can you tell summer's in full bloom in Litchfield County? You get that craving for a creamy cone or a fruity smoothie. Here are our top five spots to grab a sweet treat to beat even the hottest summer days.

The Sweet Spot, New Milford
This charming shop is inviting, with light pink walls, cozy seating and cases full of cupcakes and baked goods. But the draw this summer is their delicious ice cream from Buck’s Creamery of Milford. Try an interesting flavor like Piña Colada or White Russian. For a special treat, try their new Scoopcake—“Chocolate or vanilla cupcake filled with your choice of hot fudge, caramel, peanut butter sauce, or marshmallow sauce then topped with your choice of ice cream and rainbow or chocolate sprinkles.” Yum! The Sweet Spot is located at 60 Railroad Street, open Mon.-Thurs. 8am-9:30pm, Fri.-Sat. 8am-10:30pm and Sunday 8am-9pm.

Peaches n’ Cream, Litchfield
I may be a bit biased to this place because walking in and hearing the bells ring overhead at Peaches n' Cream always makes me fee like a kid again, enjoying the sweet freedom of summertime. The inside of the shop is very kid friendly, decorated in pastels, with ice cream drawings by local children on the walls. And the ice cream is all homemade too, with over 50 flavors that both adults and kids will love, featuring decadent Chocolate Mousse and their signature Sweet Cream. Try their seasonal Blueberry now before it’s all gone! Located at 632 Torrington Rd.

Dairy De-Lite, Woodbury
Open since 1954, Dairy De-Lite has been an ice cream staple in Woodbury for generations. The quaint roadside stop has a variety of frozen treats, with hard and soft ice cream, sorbet, gelato, frozen yogurt and Italian ice. Try their traditional flavors, or the more interesting like Lavender or Tiramisu! They also have plenty of shake and sundae combos. Located at 705 Main Street South, open 11am-9pm seven days a week.

Nirvana Café and Juice Bar, Torrington
Nirvana doesn’t serve ice cream, but they do offer delicious, homemade frozen treats unlike any other place in Litchfield County. As soon as you step in you’ll feel the mellow vibe, and maybe get to hear some great local talent, as Nirvana hosts musicians several nights each week. Try a 100% fruit smoothie, like the Island Sunset made with guava, passion fruit and strawberry, or a Sweet Temptation like the Nutty Monkey with peanut butter and banana topped with homemade whipped cream. Located at 81 Main Street, open at 11am Tuesday- Saturday, Sundays 12pm-5pm. Closed Mondays.

Popeye’s, Morris
Follow your burger and curly fries with delicious Gifford’s Ice Cream from Popeye’s. Reasonable prices and a laid back atmosphere make this spot the perfect place to grab a cone on a hot day. Try a scoop of Maine Black Bear—vanilla with raspberry swirls and chocolate chunks! Then take a seat on the patio, at a table or on the swings, and watch the country world go by. Located at 7 West Street in Morris.

Grab a cone, cup, shake or smoothie at any of these great spots this summer! Your favorite not on the list? Let us know where else to go for a good frozen treat!
