Sharon Audubon Center Festival – Two Days of Mother Nature
This year will mark the 43rd year of one of the longest running festivals of its kind in all of Connecticut. The Sharon Audubon Center Festival has always been filled with virtually everything nature-related, from a variety of insects, birds, and amphibians, to trees, plants, and wildflowers. Visitors both big and small can learn incredibly interesting facts about the world around them and how it works.
Both days are filled with powerpoints, nature walks, and demonstrations, but there are 2 feature presentations a day, which are definitely the highlights of each day. In between exhibits and presentations, festival-goers can stay in the main building and learn more about the birds or plants that they are going to/have seen, or they can make the trek along part of the 11 miles worth of hiking trails that the center owns. The animal demonstrations are some of the best exhibits to visit, as you can see the animal in its natural environment and some of the presentations allow you to touch or interact with the animals.
Kids can also enjoy numerous activities planned just for them. These “Mini-Kids” programs help to engage the kids and truly get them interested in the plants and animals they see on a daily basis. In addition, guided nature walks are available on both days, allowing the trained guides to identify the different plants and animals in their natural habitat, and how they all co-exist within the same environment.
The Sharon Audubon Center Festival begins on August 11th and runs until August 12th, allowing for plenty of time to view everything it has to offer. Reservations are required for some of the walks/presentations, so make sure you check the website a little later when the event is closer. The Sharon Audobon Center is open to the public all year as well, so if you can’t make the festival, but still want to see some of the demonstrations they show, drop in and learn about the world around you!
