The Stand Opens at Sportsplex

Add one more point of interest at the Sportsplex on Mill Plain Road. The Stand, Norwalk's funky little juice bar and vegan hot spot, opens on Thursday, September 8th. Mike Hvizdo and Carissa Dellicicchi, business partners and soon-to-be newlyweds, launched the Norwalk storefront in 2006. Hvizdo, who has a rare blood disease, wanted to improve his own health and changed his diet accordingly. Then, when his mother was diagnosed with cancer, eating organic and vegan became even more important.

Hvizdo and Dellicicchi started making juices for his mother out of their home while living in Southport. She told her friends about it at her cancer support group. Suddenly, they found themselves making juices for more than 50 people. It soon became clear that they were on to something.

While the shop initially gained popularity with the yoga moms, word started to spread. Now, people from every age and stage in life come in for their fresh wraps and salads as well as their juices and smoothies. Almost all of their food is sourced locally. They also offer a 5-day juice cleanse, although they are careful to mention that it's not for everyone. They stress that it is not meant to be a weight loss program, although many people do lose weight during the cleanse. It is meant to detoxify the body of impurities and infuse it with healthy nutrients.

With 1,700 square feet, they will have enough space for visitors to pop in for whatever makes their mouth water. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 P.m. They are closed Sundays. For more information, visit their web site at

About This Blog

Fairfield is a quaint little shore town tucked along the Gold Coast of the Long Island Sound. In 2006, Money Magazine rated the town as the ninth best place to live in the United States and the best place to live in the Northeast. We are a thriving community of active residents who walk, bike, hike, and run. And for our canine friends, it's a dog's life at the beaches and the hiking trails at Lake Mohegan. It is a great place for families and, with two major universities, it is a great place for students both young and old. With two epicenters of commerce on Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike, there is a range of shopping opportunities from major chains to Mom and Pop shops. Looking for a fun night out? Park your car in the center of town and the world is your oyster! See a concert at the Fairfield Theatre Company. Catch a movie at the Community Theater. Grab a bite to eat or a quick drink at any of the amazing restaurants peppered along the main drag. This blog celebrates all the things that are happening around town. Stop by and come see what all the fuss is about.
