The weekend of August 4th and 5th should be a hot one for Operation Hope, and we’re not talking about the weather. For 23 years, Operation Hope has been hosting a community-wide tag sale in the parking lot of the First Church Congregational, next door to Operation Hope’s main facility on Old Post Road. Proceeds from the event will support their programs to end hunger and homelessness in Fairfield.

You won’t see any bedding, televisions, computers, clothing, shoes, or books. But you will see everything else, from furniture and household goods to costume jewelry and sporting goods. The tag sale was originally held at the end of August at Wakeman Boy & Girls Club in Southport. But, it was often difficult to plan an event when many people were either still on vacation or dropping their kids off at college.

Think you’ve got something to donate? All individuals, businesses, and religious and civic organizations are free to donate any items. Drop them off daily between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. from Monday, July 30th through Thursday, August 2nd.

If you have a question or concern about whether a particular item is worthy of donation, contact the staff at Operation Hope at 203-292-5588. If you would like to volunteer to help, contact Donna Schmidt, Manager of Volunteer Services at dschmidt@operationhopect.org.

About This Blog

Fairfield is a quaint little shore town tucked along the Gold Coast of the Long Island Sound. In 2006, Money Magazine rated the town as the ninth best place to live in the United States and the best place to live in the Northeast. We are a thriving community of active residents who walk, bike, hike, and run. And for our canine friends, it's a dog's life at the beaches and the hiking trails at Lake Mohegan. It is a great place for families and, with two major universities, it is a great place for students both young and old. With two epicenters of commerce on Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike, there is a range of shopping opportunities from major chains to Mom and Pop shops. Looking for a fun night out? Park your car in the center of town and the world is your oyster! See a concert at the Fairfield Theatre Company. Catch a movie at the Community Theater. Grab a bite to eat or a quick drink at any of the amazing restaurants peppered along the main drag. This blog celebrates all the things that are happening around town. Stop by and come see what all the fuss is about.
