Oh, to have roommates again
Remember back when you had roommates that were other women (not men and children...) you had a built-in Fashion Board of Advisers? "What do you think of this dress?" "Is this me?" "You should totally wear that!" "Does this lipstick make me look desperate?" Sadly - I now find myself asking the babysitter before I go out..."Does this look ok?" These poor teenagers...what are they going to say - "Um, no Mrs. Morris, that looks like a middle aged woman went shopping at Forever 21..."
This past weekend I cleaned out my closet and half way through – I felt at a loss. I couldn’t decide what to keep, toss or tailor. I was longing for the days of roommates. I called a friend to see if she could come help me. Of course she was up to her eyeballs in soccer and homeowner duties. Grudgingly, I did my best on my own and now have a huge bag of by-gone clothes I am going to donate to Goodwill.
Now what? I’m pleased at the space that has been freed up in my closet and in my drawers, but I think I need some clothes! I was only marginally adept at the purging – but what to buy? I can read the magazines – stripes, color blocks, tribal, crazy platform shoes, but what can I pull off?
So get this – The Westfield Trumbull has this great service going right now that is exactly, I mean EXACTLY what I need. They have a dedicated space in the mall where they have professional stylists advising lost souls like me on what to wear.
Serving as a true professional styling service, the Westfield Style Lounge and Ask A Stylist is staffed by experts from Style for Hire—a network of personal stylists trained by Co-founder and Stylist-in-Chief Stacy London, the acclaimed host of TLC’s What Not To Wear, frequent contributor on NBC’s Today Show and Creative Director for Westfield Style. The Westfield Style Lounge provides an intimate environment within the center, located just outside of J. Crew and Banana Republic, where fashion secrets and customized style recommendations are available to all shoppers who simply walk-up to the Style Lounge, make appointments in advance on the Westfield Mobile App (for iPad, Android, or Blackberry), or via www.westfield.com/trumbull.
This is such a great idea – every mall should have something like this. Not only is this service free but the best part is – you don’t feel like a dork asking for help. They are there to help! I may not have roommates that can impart fashion advice anymore, but I now have a personal stylist!
