Just for the Kids at the Fairfield Public Library

Just for the Kids at the Fairfield Public Library

Need a few activities for the kiddies? Is your teen bored beyond belief? Hoping to get a jump start on their future? Look no further than our very own Fairfield Public Library.

On Friday, January 27th, the Fairfield Woods Branch will host a “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”-inspired hour of activities for tween boys and girls in grades 4 through 6.  Activities will include making mini pretzel log cabins, a snow clothes relay race, mad libs and more as time permits. The event runs after school from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Nervous about the SATs? Whether you are taking them soon or planning for next year, learn how to make your next test the last one you’ll ever need to take.  Back by popular demand, standardized testing expert Rick Bolton will teach an SAT strategies session on Sunday, January 29th and again on Sunday, February 12th, both from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at the main branch.

Each session will cover all three sections of the test—Critical Reading, Math and Writing. Bolton will help students understand how the SAT is developed, how the questions are constructed and how to use multiple techniques and strategies to reach the correct answer.

Bolton, the class instructor, has his MBA and is a former executive for TestU.com and PrepMe.com, a leading online test prep services.  A former instructor at Kaplan for the LSAT, GMAT, GRE and SAT, he is currently working on a dissertation on the effects of motivation on standardized test performance as part of a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Southern Connecticut State University.

Pump up the volume and boogie down at the main branch on Saturday, February 4th. Local teen bands and DJs will show off their musical talents with their songs and mixes at stations throughout the library. No need to whisper! Be as loud as you like from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Listen to rock, dubstep (the electronic music sensation that originated in the late ‘90s in London), and more. Contact Teen Librarian Nicole Scher for more information.

About This Blog

Fairfield is a quaint little shore town tucked along the Gold Coast of the Long Island Sound. In 2006, Money Magazine rated the town as the ninth best place to live in the United States and the best place to live in the Northeast. We are a thriving community of active residents who walk, bike, hike, and run. And for our canine friends, it's a dog's life at the beaches and the hiking trails at Lake Mohegan. It is a great place for families and, with two major universities, it is a great place for students both young and old. With two epicenters of commerce on Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike, there is a range of shopping opportunities from major chains to Mom and Pop shops. Looking for a fun night out? Park your car in the center of town and the world is your oyster! See a concert at the Fairfield Theatre Company. Catch a movie at the Community Theater. Grab a bite to eat or a quick drink at any of the amazing restaurants peppered along the main drag. This blog celebrates all the things that are happening around town. Stop by and come see what all the fuss is about.
