Where To Pick A Pumpkin?

Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard

Harvest Moon is the cat’s meow of fall festivities. Every weekend until Halloween, the Harvest Moon gang invites you to its weekend fall festival. Adults are free to binge on wood-fried oven pizza, smoked turkey legs, and pig out on Harvest Moon’s scrumptious pumpkin cheesecake. With something for every one of all shapes, sizes, and ages, you should make it a point to stop by between10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the weekends.

Stuart’s Farm

With over 200 acres of apple orchards, pumpkin fields and vegetable crops, Stuart’s Farm has been at the forefront of all things autumn dating back to the 19th century. Stuart’s Farm even captured the Academy Awards of farming accolades with a New York State Century Farm in 1972.  Apple enthusiasts have their pick of the litter from ten varieties: Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Empire, Mutsu, Jonagold, Ida Red, Northern Spy, Black twig, Baldwins, and Stuart’s Surprise. Why not pick an apple from Westchester County’s oldest apple orchard, or pick a pumpkin straight from the vine? Apples are ripe for the picking and can be done so between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Muscoot Farm

Muscoot Farm is the “jack-of-all-lanterns” for all things fall, offering a broad range of hands-on and leisure activities. Just slap on a pair of overalls, slip into a pair of shoes fit for a scenic hike and you’re good to go. You can choose from over seven miles of diverse hiking trails and kick your feet up after you’ve had enough, for a restful hayride on the premises. The little ones can catch a glimpse of Muscoot’s prized animal celebs including cows, goats, turkeys and sheep. And on November 3, you can even catch one of two workshops featuring Master Blacksmith Bill Fitzgerald, who can shape a slab of iron into anything ranging from decorative pieces to useful tools. The second workshop provides a demonstration on soap making for those who prefer the “real soap bar” to Purell instant hand sanitizer. Muscoot Farm is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, including weekends and most holidays.

Salinger’s Orchard

With chillier weather setting in, teacakes and pies will warm you up in no time. And while “crisp-aire” apples might draw folks from around the county to the orchard, they won’t leave without salivating over any of the following pastries cooked up in the orchard’s bakery: strudels, scones, crumb cakes, apple coffee cakes, donuts, and other succulent pies. The bakery also freezes unbaked pies if you’d rather instill that “right out of the oven” smell that pleasantly lingers on in your kitchen. Stop by for a one of a kind from-orchard-to-oven bakery experience at Salinger’s Orchard, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
