bedford italian restaurant- Ristorante Lucia- celebrates 6th anniversary this june
Ristorante Lucia, located in the heart of Bedford, is celebrating its 6th anniversary this June. Anniversaries are special for the owners, the Diana family, because they celebrate how their business started. Lucy Diana’s grandfather, Henry Recine, came from Italy looking for a better life. He and his brother Alex created a well-known catering hall in the Bronx, NY. Years later Lucy and her husband Peter opened Ristorante Lucia, where their daughter Cristina manages.
Not only is it known for its family friendly atmosphere and great Italian food, but for the brick oven pizza and homemade gelato. Pizza chef, Antonio Loiacano’s style of making pizzas has brought the restaurant to a new level. Antonio makes delicious traditional pizzas, as well as gourmet pizzas. One of the most popular of the gourmet is the Portobello Pizza. Offered on white or whole wheat dough, this pizza consists of fresh portobello mushrooms, smoked mozzarella, and red onions. To top it off Antonio drizzles a balsamic reduction over the pizza and garnishes it with fresh basil from the garden. Traditional pizzas are also one of Antonio’s favorite types of pizzas to make. He uses special techniques to roll out the dough aiming for a thin crust, which is a preferred by most customers. Antonio mentions that he adds a proportionate amount of sauce and mozzarella cheese to go with the thin crust. Some prefer having just cheese on their pizza, but others add toppings. Traditional toppings include fresh vegetables or meats including sausage, meatballs, chicken and prosciutto. Ristorante Lucia also offers gluten free dough for all pizzas. Gluten free pizza has become favored by many, such as Lucy, who has celiac disease.
After ten minutes in the oven, the pizza is ready to eat, but you can’t forget dessert. Lucia’s sells amazing gelato in ten different flavors made daily from an old Italian recipe in Italy generations ago. The more popular of the ten flavors are Nutella, Mint Chocolate Chip, Stracciatella (vanilla gelato and chocolate chips) and Cookies and Cream, as well as Raspberry and Lemon sorbet. Ristorante Lucia has great service in both the dining room and on the patio, this family-owned restaurant cannot be missed.
