Katonah Author, Esmeralda Santiago, Releases New Historical Novel

Esmeralda Santiago

This past Tuesday Esmeralda Santiago released the newest novel to her collection just before setting off to go on a month-long book tour in Puerto Rico. The Katonah resident (originally from Puerto Rico) will be showcasing her new book from July 14 through August 10.

If you were looking for a captivating beach read this summer, look no further. Santiago's Conquistadora has all the elements of a summer beach book that one could want: suspense, passion, and adventure.

The story is of a young rebellious girl from Seville living in a convent who travels to Puerto Rico (the land of dreams) to find a better, more fulfilling life. The novel continues to follow the young girl's romance and quest for fulfillment. However, by the end of the novel she realizes Puerto Rico is not the dream land she thought it would be and must face this harsh reality.

Oprah Magazine commented "Conquistadora is a splendid expedition into colonial history complete with enrapturing suspense to the very end." Marie Claire Magazine also mentions that Conquistadora is "an epic beach read."

This book touches on an important time in Puerto Rican history that has not been detailed before. Santiago is a nationally celebrated author who digs into her past experiences living in Puerto Rico to write inspiring stories that are well-written and true to heart. You can't help but connect and fall in love with the characters that she creates and brings to life.

If you're looking for your next nighttime or beach read, make sure you pick up your copy of Conquistadora and see why this local resident author has been so highly acclaimed by national and international critics.
