Cone Heads

Traced back to the 4th century, ice cream has been one of the most popular desserts in America.  Served all year long, ice cream tastes extra special on a warm day in the summer.  Traditionally, ice cream means a soft frozen food made with flavored milk, but nowadays the meaning varies; we have frozen yogurt, sorbet and gelato.  In the Bedford area there are a few ice cream shops that have changed the meaning of ice cream.

Serving 12 fresh flavors daily, including Alpine Vanilla, Cake Batter, and Red Velvet Cake and having over 80 toppings, such as fruits, candies and syrups, Frannie’s Goodie Shop let’s you create your own dessert.  In the shop you will see a wall of ice cream machines, as well as a section designed for toppings.  Customers rave about the healthy choices, the cleanliness of the store and the friendly staff.

Opened for four years in the heart of Katonah, Noka Joe’s not only sells old-fashioned soft-serve ice cream, but offers fun and affordable gifts.  Noka Joe’s offers a variety of unique toys, as well as having a bookstore, Little Joe’s Books, upstairs from the shop.  Vanilla, chocolate and twist are the only flavors served at Noka Joe’s, but they do offer flurries, milkshakes, sundaes and floats as well.  Noka’s will also be the source for the Blue Pig Ice Cream this year, selling pints of their ice cream.  Ingredients are freshly grown from the dairy source of the Hudson Valley Fresh, which is used in their ice cream flavors.  Buyers love the coffee selection in Noka Joe’s and most can agree that it is the perfect store for gift buying.

Known for its delicious smoothies, Treat Frozen Yogurt serves healthy soft-serve frozen yogurt and parfaits paired with a variety of toppings, such as fresh fruits and granola that are great after any meal.  The shop offers a selection of flavors including vanilla, chocolate, peanut butter and strawberry.  Open daily, this family owned business possesses a great atmosphere, providing comfy chairs and free wifi.

Located near Muscoot Farm, King Kone serves old fashioned soft-serve custard, as well as lunch items including chicken fingers, hamburgers and fries.  Customers love the generous soft-serve ice cream portions, as well as the fair prices.  Its the perfect stop in the summer if you’re looking for a tasty treat or a quick lunch.
