The Art of It: Twilight Falls
Mary Sipp Green of Stockbridge has been painting for more than 40 years
Mary Sipp Green of Stockbridge has been painting for more than 40 years, and her recently published monograph, Every Hour of the Light, is currently being sold in the Berkshires. Among the paintings in this book is Twilight Falls in South County, shown above, a Berkshire-inspired landscape. Sipp Green reflects on twilight as being one of her favorite times of the day: “There is something about the colors of that time, the atmosphere, everything is very mysterious.” The artist achieves the precise illumination by drying and layering oil on linen to bring out the light from within the painting rather than highlighting the light on a certain object of the piece. Sipp Green exhibits in galleries throughout the world, and from July 26 through August 8, 2015 at The Granary Gallery in Martha’s Vineyard.
