The Happiness Is Back Market and Café offers tasty food inside and out
Whether indulging in a morning pastry and cappuccino, eating a healthy salad, or grabbing a dinner to go, Banksville’s Happiness Is Back Country Market and Café offers delicious food in a charming atmosphere.
The Market is owned by Christine Salazar and her brother Tom Tegtmeier, Bedford-born and raised. It is an outgrowth of their well-known catering company. The market and expanded café opened to meet several needs, Salazar says. “The area’s local supermarket had closed, and we wanted to expand our café seating, so we combined the prepared food selections with pantry items—the items I use when I cook.” Customers can either eat inside or, weather-permitting, at some outdoor tables.
Baked goods run the gamut from buttery croissants to sublime lemon bars. (Saturdays come in early for the doughnuts.) There are sandwich and salad selections for lunch as well as items such as shrimp salad or jicama slaw. The market’s popular Tuesday Supper Club features seasonal selections such as barbecue ribs, grilled vegetables, and Key lime pie. “We have specials every night of the week and we emphasize quality and local ingredients,” Salazar says.
