The Art of It: Putting on the Face
Whit Conrad's paintings elicit big laughs from viewers
The Lionheart Gallery in Pound Ridge began hosting the colorful and witty artworks of Whit Conrad this spring only to discover that boisterous laughter erupts when people view the paintings. Most artists would not like such a response, but Conrad relishes the effect. His oil painting, “Putting on the Face,” above, is all about the public/private dichotomy especially prevalent in young women. Whimsy and wit are at the core of Conrad’s art, keeping his works perennially provocative and fresh with each viewing. Stop by The Lionheart Gallery for the art, as well as a chuckle.
