Northern Westchester Hospital’s Music Therapy Program Fundraiser
Music has a therapeutic effect on people. Northern Westchester Hospital’s Music Therapy Program is proof of that. Since its beginnings in 2008, NWH’s program has aided more than 1,500 patients with a variety of afflictions. Nurses and doctors have attributed positive changes in mood, levels of pain, anxiety, attentiveness, responsiveness and sociability to patients’ exposure to music. Yet, because of music therapy’s unquantifiable nature, the treatment is not covered by insurance, and the program exists solely because of the support and donations of caring donors.
Enter: Moms and Dads Rock, a concert and fundraiser to be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Harvey School in Katonah to benefit NWH’s Music Therapy Program. The event, co-chaired by Cathy and Paul Shaffer, the latter of Late Show with David Letterman fame, and Anita and John Bae, “will be filled with music, dancing, and laughter,” says Cathy Shaffer. Paul Shaffer will take the stage, as will local bands Lawless, ONL, and The Shaves while comedienne Christine O’Leary will emcee. “Paul and I have such an appreciation for the healing properties of music,” adds Shaffer. “Paul has been privileged to witness first-hand the calming and soothing powers of music. We’d love to see the awareness and support for this program continue to grow.”
Moms and Dads Rock is a 21-and-over event kicking off at 7 pm. To purchase tickets visit nwhconnect.org/ 2015daddybands.
