Westchester’s first micro-winery
South Salem Winery, Westchester’s first micro-winery, has just opened in South Salem on the grounds of Gossett Brothers Nursery. This year, South Salem will be bottling Big Red, a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, and Sangiovese; a second red that is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a hint of Malbec; and of course, a classic Chardonnay.
Although the winery is new, the relationship between the vintner and the property owner dates back almost twenty years. Vintner John Vuolo has been making wine for almost two decades. Tom Gossett’s family-owned nursery on Route 35 has served the community for over a quarter century. Together, they have formed a one-of-a-kind micro-winery.
The tasting room features a food bar serving delicious finger foods and is open Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
