Secrets to decorating and hosting like a pro
Expert advice for holiday decorating and entertaining:
“Do something to elevate the experience, even if it’s something simple,” suggests Brett Cameron of La Maison Fête. For example, offer guests a festive drink, such as a pomegranate martini, use a unique natural element like a pinecone to hold place cards, or serve a cheese course before dessert. "
“Don’t be afraid to cram a lot of branches into your pot if you’re doing an evergreen container outside,” advises Earth Mama’s Angela Jobe. “Also, keep the stems cut shorter than you may think, and keep it compact.” To maintain the freshness of your natural garlands, arrangements, and cuttings, spray them with an anti-desiccant, such as Wilt-Pruf, she says.
Consider a wreath made of magnolia leaves, suggests Mary Jones of Rodier Flowers on Main Street. “They are a cool element and are very long lasting.” And consider fruits as a centerpiece, particularly artichokes, pomegranates, or red grapes. “They are very lush, and they add a lot of texture.”
“Instead of red and green, consider white and silver with maybe a soft touch of blue,” advises Olley Court’s Susan Buzaid.
